Quick start — in 6 steps
Estimated time: 10–20 minutes. Have a pen and paper nearby (for your recovery seed).
-
1
Unbox & verify the device
Only use the Trezor device that arrived sealed from an official source. Inspect packaging for tamper signs and follow the package verification steps included with your device.
-
2
Download Trezor Suite
Open trezor.io/start or download Trezor Suite for your desktop (Windows / macOS / Linux) or mobile app for iOS/Android. Never download wallet software from unverified links.
-
3
Connect and install firmware
Connect your Trezor with the supplied USB cable. Trezor Suite will guide you to install the latest official firmware — do this before creating a wallet.
-
4
Create a new wallet & set a PIN
Create a new wallet in Trezor Suite and set a secure PIN. The PIN protects the device if it’s lost or stolen.
-
5
Write down your recovery seed
Record your recovery seed (24 words for modern Trezor models) on the printed card provided — do this offline. Store the seed securely; anyone with it can access your funds.
-
6
Receive crypto & verify
Use Trezor Suite to generate receiving addresses and send a small test amount first. Always verify addresses on the device screen before sending funds.
Security best practices
- Buy only from official sources. Avoid marketplaces and third-party vendors that may sell tampered devices.
- Never share your recovery seed. Trezor staff or support will never ask for it.
- Keep firmware up to date. Install updates only through Trezor Suite or the official website.
- Use a passphrase for extra security. A passphrase acts as a 25th word — treat it carefully and remember it, as losing it can lock you out of funds.
- Store backups safely. Consider metal backup plates for long-term durability (fire, water, corrosion resistant).
FAQ
- What if I lose my device?
- If you lose your Trezor, you can recover your wallet and funds using the recovery seed on a new Trezor or compatible recovery tool — provided you kept your seed safe.
- Can I use Trezor with multiple wallets?
- Yes. Trezor supports multiple accounts and many cryptocurrencies. Manage them through Trezor Suite and compatible third-party wallets.
- Is my seed stored online?
- No. The seed is generated and shown only on the device; it should be written down offline and never photographed or stored digitally.
